“Thomas has had one particular very large change in his life since he left town,” Atkinson said. “And when he comes back, it is something that shocks everyone.”
Of course, the logical explanation here is that Thomas met someone special and fell in love while he was away.
It’s probably just a matter of how much of a commitment Thomas has made to his new leading lady.

It’s easy to imagine Thomas having a new woman on his arm when he returns, so he might announce that they’re engaged or even married.
Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) wasn’t willing to accept Thomas’ proposal, so maybe he’s already found someone else willing to take that marriage leap with him.
This is the kind of thing that could spark some mixed feelings, especially from Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye).
Although Ridge and Steffy wanted Thomas to find happiness, they might have some concerns about Thomas jumping into a new engagement or marriage so fast.
There are always gold-digger fears when a handsome and wealthy Forrester is involved, so that’s important to keep in mind.
As for Hope, she might feel a hint of jealousy over the new lady who’s won Thomas’ heart, so that could push her even closer to John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan)!
