Rebecca Sarker, best known for playing Manpreet Sharma on the ITV soap, has become a fan favorite and a key part of the Anderson family. However, Rebecca recently revealed that her time on Emmerdale almost ended prematurely. Originally, Manpreet was introduced as a love interest for Rishi Sharma, with plans for her to cheat on him with his son Jai. This storyline would have cast her as a gold-digger and temptress, but thankfully, the showrunners decided to take a different direction, giving Manpreet more depth and longevity.

Rebecca shared that she would have found the original storyline difficult, especially since she and Chris Bisson, who plays Jai, previously starred as siblings on Coronation Street. Rebecca played Nita Desai, and Chris played Vikram Desai. Reflecting on this, Rebecca quipped to Inside Soap, “Chris Bisson and I played brother and sister on Corrie 25 years ago, so I was a bit concerned at the thought of our characters having an affair.”

Currently, Manpreet is happily involved with Charles, who she describes as her hero and the love of her life. They first met when Manpreet was in an unhappy and abusive marriage. Fans were rooting for their reunion, and they eventually got their happy ending. Although Manpreet recently turned down Charles’s proposal, it was only because the circumstances weren’t right. For her, it’s always been about Charles.
